Sharon McClure is the founder of Democracy Trailblazers, a youth-focused civic leadership initiative dedicated to equipping high school students with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to become active changemakers in their communities.  A proud Alabama native, Sharon is passionate about empowering young people through civic education, leadership development, voter engagement, and community action.

Sharon was selected as a fellow in the inaugural cohort of the Organizing Accelerator, where she gained valuable community organizing skills and built relationships with a powerful network of mission-driven leaders across Alabama. Inspired by that experience, she launched Democracy Trailblazers to bring the same spirit of empowerment, advocacy, and leadership development to the next generation.

Under Sharon’s leadership, Democracy Trailblazers has grown into a dynamic program that not only promotes voter registration and civic participation, but also develops confident young leaders through mentorship, public speaking opportunities, policy education, community service, and student-led initiatives.

 

Through the organization’s Trailblazing Ambassadors Program, students are encouraged to use their voices, lead with purpose, and create meaningful change in their schools and communities.

Sharon is also the author of the book Dare to Dream Democracy, a civic empowerment project designed to inspire young people to believe in the power of their voices and their role in shaping democracy. Her work continues to bridge leadership, storytelling, and grassroots organizing in ways that make civic engagement accessible, relatable, and empowering for youth.
